Herman Gibb, Ph. D., M.P.H. is the President of Sciences International, Inc.
headquartered in Alexandria, VA. Dr. Gibb directs an interdisciplinary group of scientists
specializing in risk assessment as a basis for addressing the complex problems that arise
in the context of regulatory and legal matters related to health and the environment for
national and international companies and governments. Prior to joining Sciences in January
2004, Dr. Gibb was Senior Science Advisor, Associate Director for Health, and Assistant
Center Director at the National Center for Environmental Assessment of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency and was Project Officer for EPA’s cooperative
agreements with the World Health Organization. Dr. Gibb is an epidemiologist
and an internationally recognized expert on the health effects of metals and
on risk assessment. He was the recipient of the EPA’s Scientific and Technological
Achievement Award for his epidemiologic study of chromate production workers and the
recipient of the EPA’s Gold Medal for Exceptional Service for his work on the drinking
water standard for arsenic. He has a PhD in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University,
an MPH in Environmental Health from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.S. from the
Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Gibb is an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington
University School of Public Health. He is the author of numerous book chapters, journal
publications, and government assessment documents.
Key Project Areas for Dr. Gibb include:
- Evaluation of epidemiologic literature.
- Design and conduct of epidemiologic studies.
- Risk assessment of metals.
- Exposure response analysis using epidemiologic data.
- Development and analysis of survey questionnaires.
