Gibb is Author of Journal Article on Biomarkers of Mercury Exposure

Tetra Tech Sciences’ Dr. Herman Gibb is author of Biomarkers of mercury exposure in two eastern Ukraine cities, an article that appeared in the April issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene. The study was done in collaboration with scientists from the Ukraine Institute of Occupational Health, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. The study compared blood, urine, hair, and nail mercury concentrations in residents of two cities in eastern Ukraine, Horlivka and Artemivsk. A former world class mercury mine is located in Horlivka; Artemivsk is located in an area where there is not geologic mercury enrichment. The study found that environmental measures of exposure (soil, dust mercury) correlated well with blood and urinary mercury. To read the article, click here.
