Thresholds of Toxicological Concern.
Tetra Tech’s Anthony Scialli has coauthored a paper on thresholds of toxicological concern (TTC) for Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology. TTC is a method for estimating an exposure level at which there is a low likelihood of toxicity in the absence of specific data on a chemical. The estimate is based on data from studies using other chemicals that are considered to be of similar risk potential based on structural characteristics. There has been concern that reproductive end points are more sensitive to toxicity than other end points used for TTC calculations; however, the new paper by Dr. Scialli and colleagues demonstrates that standard TTC calculations would also be protective for reproductive endpoints.
