Drugs and Chemicals in Milk

Tetra Tech Science’s Anthony Scialli presented Grand Rounds at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring MD on October 3, 2008. Dr. Scialli spoke on drugs and chemicals in breast milk, addressing the medical staff, medical students, and residents at the hospital. The presentation focused on the mechanism by which chemicals gain access to milk and determinants of infant effect. His conclusion was that it is rarely appropriate to counsel women to avoid breastfeeding because of medication use or environmental chemical exposure. Holy Cross Hospital, at which 9000 deliveries occur annually, is an affiliate of George Washington University.
