Dr. Gibb selected as chair of the Chemical Task Force of the World Health Organization’s Foodborne Disease Epidemiology Reference Group

Dr. Gibb was selected by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Secretariat to chair the Task Force on Chemicals in Food of WHO’s Foodborne Disease Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG) for 2008. Dr. Gibb attended the inaugural FERG meeting in Geneva on November 26-28, 2007 and chaired the deliberations of the Task Force. The purpose the FERG is to obtain reliable global epidemiological data on morbidity and mortality from foodborne illness in order to generate global estimates of the foodborne burden of disease. The results of this effort will be used to guide public health policies for disease control and prevention.
