
Dr. Gibb selected as expert for World Health Organization’s
Foodborne Disease Burden Epidemiology Reference Group.
Dr. Herman Gibb was selected by the Director-General
of the World Health Organization (WHO) to serve
as an expert on WHO’s Foodborne Disease
Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG). WHO has
undertaken an Initiative to Estimate the
Global Burden of Foodborne Diseases and
the FERG will advise WHO on matters of global
foodborne disease epidemiology. The purpose of
this effort is to obtain reliable global epidemiological
data on morbidity and mortality resulting form
causes commonly transmitted through food in order
to guide public health policies for disease control
and prevention. Dr. Gibb is an internationally
recognized epidemiologist and recently co-authored
a burden of disease document for WHO entitled Mercury:
Assessing the Environmental Burden of Disease.
