Dr. Gibb and Ms. Poulin to present at World Health Organization (WHO) meeting on the Global Burden of Foodborne Diseases.

Dr. Herman Gibb and Ms. Jessie Poulin have been invited to present at the WHO preparatory meeting for the Chemical Task Force of the Foodborne Disease Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG). The meeting, to be held in Geneva on June 29, 2007 , will discuss approaches for quantifying the role of chemicals in foodborne disease and strategize future activities of the task force. Dr. Gibb and Ms. Poulin will present their document, Mercury: Assessing the Environmental Burden of Disease, which assesses the impact of methylmercury-induced neurological deficits in prenatally-exposed infants. Dr. Gibb presented at the WHO Consultation to Develop a Strategy to Estimate the Global Burden of Foodborne Diseases last September; the report is available on the WHO website at: http://www.who.int/foodsafety/publications/foodborne_disease/burden_sept06/en/.
